Split-drive reload process:

Our custom reload consists of configuring your hard drive into 2 partitions or SPLITTING the drive. The reason for doing this is in case your operating system files become corrupt and the operating system needs to be reloaded it can be done WITHOUT having to delete YOUR data files.
Most computer manufacturers put ALL your files are put on the hard drive in ONE partition "C". If the operating system files become corrupt the ENTIRE drive must be wiped and ALL data files are lost. With our unique split-drive process the operating system is put on the "C" partition and ALL your normal everyday data files are put on the "D" partition. If the operating system needs to be reloaded your data files DO NOT need to be removed or disturbed.
When you bring your computer in to be reloaded we back up your ENTIRE drive first into a folder we name "Old Drive". This folder is then put on the root of the "D" partition of your newly formatted hard drive. To access your "old drive" folder click on the "My Computer" icon on the desktop then click on Local Disk (D:). Inside "D" you will find a folder called "Old Drive". Browse through this folder and you will find ALL of your documents that were on your computer befoer we reloaded it. (See screen shots below)

D Drive
Now that you understand the process of reloading your computer with a split-drive we are going to look in the "Old Drive" folder and put your files back where they were before we loaded your machine. Remember, ALL of the files that were on your machine prior to the reload are in the "Old Drive" Folder including the old operating system, program files, and your data files. Any Programs you had loaded on your computer SHOULD BE REINSTALLED from the original CD and not just copied from the "Old Drive" folder. Copying program files DOES NOT put the necessary registry files back where they belong and your programs may not run properly and cause problems with other processes.

Understanding file structure:

Before you begin reinstalling your data files you must understand the file structure of your computer. If you understand file structure of a computer you can skip this section.
The files in your computer are set up much like the files in a filing cabinet. We will look at this as if your computer is the filing cabinet. The filing cabinet will have 4 drawers. The first drawer of the cabinet we will call 3 1/2 Floppy (A:), the second drawer we will call Local Drive (C:), the third drawer we will call Local Drive (D:), and the fourth drawer we will call Compact Disc (E:). For this demonstration we are only going to talk about Local Drive (D:). Within the drawers of the filing cabinet there are folders and inside the folders are sub folders that contain files such as Microsoft word documents, Microsoft Excel spread sheets,.jpg image files, and whatever other kind of files you save on your computer. You can also have sub folders within sub folders. Lets set up an examlpe. Remember, ALL your data files are going to be located on Local Drive (D:) with a Split-Drive. In the Local Drive (D:) we will have a folder called My Documents by default. ALL of your documents Should be put in this folder. Lets say we have 4 Catigories we want to store files in. We want to have 4 sub folders called; pictures, word documents, excel documents, and expenses. In the sub folder "pictures" we will have 3 more sub folders; family pics, winter pics, and my friends. Within the sub folder "my friends" we will have sub folders called Kim, Dan, Jen, Sara, and Jason. Within each of these sub folders we will have .jpg image files. This process of putting folders inside of folders is called "file structure" Examine the screenshot below to better understand file structure.
To make a new sub folder open the folder you want to create the sub folder in, right click within that folder and select "Folder". When the new folder appears type the name you want to use. To set the name click in the white space of the folder and the name you typed will be set.

Reinstalling Your Old Files:

Now that you understand file structure we will start putting your files from the folder "Old Drive" into your NEW My Documents folder.
